Basically, a real estate agent is a person who has been licensed by New York State to assist people who are selling or buying real property (land and the improvements attached to the land). In general:

• For a seller, the agent represents the seller and assists him or her in locating a buyer for the property.
• For a buyer, the agent represents the buyer and assists him or her in locating and purchasing a property.
